Prof. Wolfgang Bethge studied Medicine at the Eberhard-Karls University of Tuebingen, Germany and St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School (Imperial College), London, England. From 1994 to 1997 he was research fellow at the Children’s University Hospital, Tuebingen, working on immunotherapy with antibody-superantigen immunoconjugates. From 1997 to 2001 he was resident at the department of Hematology, Oncology, Immunology and Rheumatology at the University of Tuebingen. From 2001 to 2003, Prof. Bethge worked as postdoctoral fellow at the Division of Transplantation Biology of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, USA in the group of Rainer Storb and Brenda Sandmaier on strategies for nonmyeloablative conditioning in allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HTC). In August 2003 he returned to Tuebingen. Since 2007 he is head of the clinical trial unit of the Department of Hematology/Oncology. Since 2008 he is Associate Professor for Hematology & Oncology. Since 2013 he is also director of the Center for Clinical Studies ZKS Tübingen of the University Hospital Tuebingen. Since 2018 he is deputy Medical Director of the Department of Hematology & Oncology of the University Hospital Tuebingen and head of the center for stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy. His special interests are strategies to offer allogeneic transplantation and cellular therapies to patients so far excluded from these approaches because of comorbidities, age or lack of suitable donor.
